Tedious, but you will have the deck you want. I suggest you use an impact to remove the screws, pull up the planks, cut off extra screw parts, and reinstall the planks with your desired spacing. I could not find new deck screws with square holes, so I bought the torx head deck screws. Refer to the recommended fasteners page for more information. Junk gets in there and holds moisture, and then the joists start to rot form the top down. How the edge of decks are edged changed after we had this done and the angle on the edge catches lots of crud. If I do that I suppose I should start at the deck edge and work toward the house. I can trim the last board at the edge of the deck as it uses a vinyl angle over the edge and a large J over the rim board - come to think of it I may overhang the Trex if I think I will have enough material to revise that. I may bevel the bottom edge to make sure it doesn't meet the ledger board. The one next to the house can be moved over enough to use new screw holes into the joists. Thinking I will take up the trex and move each piece out a slight amount. have considered running a saw down the slots to open them up but not sure I could make it look good and couldn't get up to the ends and parts along the house which also have drainage issues. The decking is still in good condition so want to do something to improve drainage. This was installed about 15 years ago before the edge clips came into use (which set the spacing). ![]() When our deck was done they didn't space the boards much - barely a crack between boards so they plug up and don't allow water through.
